St. Petersburg (RU)

Kai Strobel with the Symphony Orchestra of the St. Petersburg State Academic Cappella

The Musical Olympus International Festival of St. Petersburg is held annually since 1996. The festival has become known as a 'parade of winners', presenting winners of the largest and most prestigious international music competitions like the ARD competition and the Geneva International Music Competition. In 1997 the Festival received the patronage of the World Federation of International Music Competitions as well as of the Ministry for Culture of Russia.

In the St. Petersburg State Academic Cappella TROMP 2018 winner Kai Strobel performs the third marimba concerto Linzer by the Danish composer Anders Koppel with the Symphony Orchestra of the St. Petersburg State Academic Cappella. Originally written for and premiered by Martin Grubinger, this symphonic and romantic composition gives room for lyrical marimba playing as well as challenging technical and virtuosic movements, right up Kai Strobel's alley: with "experience and control and great lines, full of details" he impressed TROMP's jury, which included Martin Grubinger.
