Founded in Eindhoven in 1971 by dr Theo TROMP,  former Vice President of Philips, the biennial TROMP competition creates opportunities and an international stage for talented musicians. Specialising in percussion in 2010, the Dutch competition has become the world’s leading competition for solo percussion.  Investing in the future of its laureates and percussion in general, TROMP also provides in master classes, new repertoire and increasing audiences.

Preparing the competition's repertoire

Participants can choose from selected repertoire for the various rounds and, in addition, prepare work of one's own choice. TROMP also provides in masterclasses around the world by TROMP jury members and laureates.

TROMP has an excellent history of internationally acclaimed jury's, including world famous percussionists such as Colin Currie, Evelyn Glennie and Mark Pekarsky. During the competition, the participants that haven't been selected to participate in the Finale, will be provided with jury feedback in person. Additionally it has become a tradition that the day prior to the Finale, those participants will be offered a chance to perform with the jurymembers at the TROMP Jury Concert.

Host Facilities

TROMP is known for its relaxed atmosphere as well as its warm and friendly reception by the organisers and especially the host families, where the participants will stay. All contestants will receive board & lodging as well as reimbursement of their travel expenses costs. Various activities, including masterclasses and workshops, are open to participants throughout the competition. TROMP will provide all necessary instruments, all of professional quality.

All participants will receive a professional recording of all their performances during the competition, which they may use for promotional purposes.
