TROMP 2020 opening night

Muziekgebouw Eindhoven - Grote Zaal

With no less than two piano duos (two brothers, two sisters) a choir, vocal soloists and seven percussionists, this is a richly decorated concert with only classics. Stravinsky's ballet Les noces (Wedding) does not often adorn the lecterns. That's because it needs an exceptional cast, and we've got them together now!

Stravinsky - Les noces
Lukaszewski - Shakespeare sonetts
Bartók - Sonate for 2 piano’s and percussion
Ravel - Bolero

Bartók's Sonata shows you all of the piano and percussion possibilities and is therefore exceptionally compelling. The work premiered with the composer and his second wife Ditta Pásztory-Bartók, on piano and the percussionists Saul Goodman and Henry Deneke at the anniversary concert of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) on January 16, 1938 in Basel. The work was enthusiastically received by the press and has become one of the composer's most played works since.

Ravel's famous Boléro certainly promises to be a musical spectacle. Ravel called the piece musically empty, yet it is known as one of his masterpieces. The Bolero consists of two themes that are played by different instruments. After two introductory beats by the bass drum, the first theme is started by a single flute, after which the entire orchestra gradually joins in, with crescendo taking place with each successive fragment.
