Gabriel Michaud wins Tromp 2022

Prize winners at the TROMP International Percussion Competition Eindhoven 2022:

  • First Prize, € 15,000: Gabriel Michaud (France);
  • Second Prize, € 10,000: Cheuk Hin Keith Ng (Hong Kong);
  • Third Prize,  € 7,000: Xiaohui Chen (China);
  • Willem Vos Award, for the best interpretation of a composition by a Dutch composer, € 500: Xiaohui Chen;
  • Jan Pustjens Press Prize, € 2,000: Gabriel Michaud;
  • Friends of TROMP audience award, € 3,000: Gabriel Michaud;
  • 'The Annelie', prize of the youth jury, made available by the Friends of TROMP, € 1,000: Aaron Grünwald.

The 19-year old Gabriel Michaud from France won the First Prize of the TROMP International Percussion Competition 2022 in Eindhoven. “Distinct musical ideas, fantastic playing, well controlled and yet smooth, great contact with the audience”, according to the jury which included Michael Burritt (USA), Emil Kuyumcuyan (Turkiye), Arnold Marinissen (The Netherlands), Bart Quartier (Belgium), Emmanuel Séjourné (France), Zhou Xiong (China), Yi-Ping Yang (Taiwan). The audience’s favourite Michaud also won the Audience Award and Jan Pustjens Press Prize, awarded by the press jury. Since 11 November, 26 of the most talented percussionists from all over the world have been competing in order to gain a spot in the Finale. Besides the awards and prizes, TROMP invites its winners to perform concerts and give master classes in the Netherlands and abroad.
