John Dawson received his Bachelor of Music degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Texas in May 2021 and his Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance from Northwestern University in June 2023. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Percussion Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music. His recent achievements include winning 1st prize at the Great Plains International Marimba Competition, earning an Eastman Performer's Certificate, receiving an invitation to the 7th World Marimba Competition, an Honorable Mention in the Yamaha Young Performing Artist Competition, and performing a concerto with the University of Texas Symphony Orchestra.
