ABOUT TROMP

Since the earliest drums, rhythm has brought people together — to tell stories, to learn, to celebrate. Percussion is a universal language that connects cultures and generations. TROMP Percussion builds on this tradition: a platform that inspires and unites people through rhythm, nurturing young talent and motivating musicians and audiences to make music together.

Founded in 1971 in Eindhoven by Dr. Theo Tromp, former Vice President of Philips, TROMP has grown into one of the world’s leading platforms for percussion. At the heart of the biennial festival is the renowned TROMP Percussion Competition — the foremost international competition for solo percussion — offering young musicians a stage to perform, learn, and collaborate.

TROMP invests in the future of its laureates and percussion worldwide through masterclasses, study trips, education programs, and international tours. Beyond the competition, the festival presents cutting-edge performances and interdisciplinary productions that push the boundaries of percussion and contemporary music.

Based in Eindhoven, one of the world’s most innovative regions through Brainport, TROMP mirrors this spirit of creativity and forward-thinking. It is internationally recognized for its artistic excellence, commitment to innovation, talent development, and cultural dialogue — shaping the future of percussion while rooted in its timeless power to connect people.
