TROMP Repertoire Days offers the possibility for percussionist students to attend master classes led by jury members and laureates in various locations throughout the world.

For more than a decade, TROMP Percussion has been building international connections through its Repertoire Days – a series of events that bring young percussionists, professors, and world-class artists together in masterclasses, lectures, and concerts. After twelve years of close collaboration with IPEA at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, TROMP now expanded this initiative to multiple cities across Asia. For the first time in its history, the tour also included South Korea.

In autumn 2025, TROMP’s Artistic Director Dominique Vleeshouwers (winner TROMP 2014), together with prize winners SeongYeon Kong (2nd prize 2024), Xia Yuan (1st prize 2024) and Kai Strobel (1st prize 2018), visited leading universities and concert halls in Shenzhen, Xi’an, Shenyang, Seoul, Shanghai, and Tokyo.

Each city hosted a tailor-made program, created in collaboration with local professors and institutions:

  • Shenzhen – The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (Prof. Le Yu)

  • Xi’an – Xi’an Conservatory of Music (Prof. Han Xiaojing), Shaanxi Normal University (Prof. Du Juan)

  • Shenyang – Shenyang Conservatory of Music (Prof. Zhengdao Lv)

  • Seoul – Korea National University of Arts (Prof. Eunhye Kim)

  • Shanghai – IPEA & Shanghai Conservatory of Music (Prof. Ruwen Yang)

  • Tokyo – Showa University of Music (Prof. Nanae Mimura), Tokyo College of Music (Prof. Momoko Kamiya)

Through masterclasses, group lessons, lectures, and collaborative concerts with local students and musicians, TROMP Repertoire Days Asia 2025 continued to inspire the next generation of percussionists, while strengthening an international community that connects East and West on the way to the TROMP Competition in Eindhoven.

"It was truly amazing. This was my first time stepping out of the student role to give masterclasses to other students. It was a huge step forward for me. Without this trip, I would probably still see myself mainly as a student at the Stuttgart University of Music, where I’m currently in the Konzertexamen program. After the masterclasses, workshops, and concerts in Tokyo, I realized it’s time to start making the transition from being a student to becoming a professional musician. This tour was a turning point for me — it allowed more people in the world to get to know me and hear my music.”

"I took a big step in my life — from being a competition-winning student toward becoming a professional musician."

"Before visiting Showa University, I only knew about Professor Nanae Mimura through YouTube, and at the Tokyo University of the Arts, Momoko Kamiya had been one of the jurors at the 2024 Tromp Competition. Before the tour, they both felt somewhat distant figures to me. But after spending almost two full days at these two schools, sharing discussions, and exchanging musical ideas with the percussion professors, I felt we built meaningful and genuine connections."
